Fado, often called Portuguese Blues, is a music genre that expresses saudade—longing and heartfelt emotion—through passionate singing and the distinctive Portuguese guitar. It is deeply connected to Portugal’s identity and culture, similar to Flamenco in Spain.
This atmospheric afternoon concert takes place in the small, cozy Studio Fado Violetta on the main street of Alte. The event begins with a brief introduction to Fado’s fascinating history and tradition. Then you will experience a variety of Fado songs, from melancholic and soulful to modern and lively, including selections from Amalia Rodrigues' repertoire.
In 2011, Fado was recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With a maximum capacity of 12 guests, the venue provides an intimate and relaxing atmosphere suitable for all ages, whether a family outing or a romantic experience. Graphics and CDs are available for purchase to bring a piece of Portuguese culture home.
Arrive 10-15 minutes before the concert start time, as late entry is not permitted once the performance begins.
