Description
The tour begins at Manuel Bivar Garden near Faro’s marina. As you travel towards the old town, your guide introduces Faro's history from its Phoenician roots to the Portuguese reign under King D. Afonso III.
In the old town, visit key landmarks such as the cathedral, episcopal palace, city hall, the statue of the king, and the archaeological museum. The route continues through the historic area once enclosed by a sixteenth-century wall.
The journey alternates between historic and modern parts of Faro. You will see all twelve Catholic churches, including Our Lady of Carmo’s church with its notable bone chapel. The tour also reaches the highest city point at Santo António’s tower, passes along 5th October Avenue to Faro’s old theatre, and goes through the colorful city market.
