Description
The trail begins at Praia da Marinha viewpoint, one of Portugal’s most accessible and picturesque beaches, with ample parking nearby. From there, a clearly marked cliff-top path follows the coastline, offering expansive views of limestone cliffs meeting the Atlantic Ocean.
Hikers will traverse seven hanging valleys—deep, narrow ravines descending to secluded beaches, each with distinctive coastal scenery. Along the route, you can observe dramatic cliffs, coves, sinkholes, and unique rock formations shaped by ocean forces over millions of years.
The trail is popular among photographers for its numerous vantage points capturing the striking contrast of golden cliffs, green vegetation, and turquoise waters. While the path is well-maintained, some sections are moderately challenging with uneven terrain and cliff edges, requiring appropriate footwear and care.
The full linear hike spans approximately 6 km one way and typically takes around four hours at a moderate pace, including stops at viewpoints and beaches. Transportation from the trail’s end back to Praia da Marinha is included and must be arranged via private vehicle, taxi, or rideshare.
