Albufeira has introduced a new Code of Conduct aimed at promoting respectful and safe public behaviour to help keep Albufeira the happy, friendly, fun and welcoming place it usually is. Introduced in 2025, the rules still apply in 2026.

The new rules simply clarifies and enforces public standards that most people already consider common sense — respect, decency, and consideration for others and for the property of others. The code will help ensure that Albufeira continues to be a fabulous beach destination, a great family holiday venue, as well as a fun and safe party spot for visitors, while offering a superb lifestyle for residents of all nationalities.
New Code of Conduct Introduced in Albufeira in June 2025
The new Code of Conduct has officially come into effect in Albufeira as of 24 June 2025 and still applies in 2026. Designed to clarify what is and isn’t acceptable public behaviour, the rules aims to promote a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for everyone — residents, workers, and visitors alike, and apply to everyone within the municipality of Albufeira.
While some of the headlines may grab attention — banning public nudity, drinking alcohol on the street, and simulating sexual acts in public — the truth is, this code simply reinforces standards of behaviour that many would already expect in a vibrant, multicultural and family-friendly destination like Albufeira.

The new Code of Conduct is the result of nearly a year of work, including public consultation with the police, business community, local government, and civil society organisations. Its goal is not to restrict enjoyment, but to set clear standards for respectful behaviour that protect both Albufeira’s international reputation and its residents’ right to live peacefully.

- Consuming alcohol in public spaces and streets

- Sleeping rough or overnight in public areas
- Urinating, defecating, or spitting in public
- Making loud, disruptive noise — such as dragging objects that cause screeching sounds or playing instruments at disturbing volumes in residential zones
- Damaging or tampering with public infrastructure (like traffic signs or street lighting)

What is the Albufeira Code of Conduct?
It is a set of regulations introduced in June 2025 to limit antisocial and nuisance public behaviour, so that everyone can enjoy Albufeira in safety and in a respectful environment.
Is drinking alcohol in the streets banned in Albufeira?
Yes, drinking in public areas in not allowed. You can drink on the terraces and decks of bars and clubs, but not on the streets.
Is there a dress code for public areas now in place?
Yes. Walking in public areas away from the beach in jsut swimwear or top-or shirtless is not allowed.
Does the Code mean Hen and Stag parties are banned in Albufeira?
No, not al all. Parties and celebrations are welcome, as long as they behave responsibly and respect the new rules.
Will the new rules take the fun out of Albufeira?
Not at all. On the contrary, the aim is to make Albufeira enjoyable for all, and to ensure that the antisocial behaviour of a few doesn't spoil it for everyone.
Are the new rules very strict?
No. The rules will be enforced strictly, but the rules themselves simply reinforce standards of behaviour that many would already expect .
Does the Code apply only to tourists?
No, the Code applies to everyone in public spaces in Albufeira.

Yes, it is.
What happens if I break the rules in Albufeira?
Depending on the situation you may receive a verbal warning or a fine. Fines range from €150 to €1.800 depending on the offence.
